Cub Scout Bobcat Tiger Meeting

A Cub Scout progresses towards a badge of rank based on their grade. For our first graders, we’ll work towards getting their Tiger Badge by the end of year.

There’re 6 required adventures to be completed to obtain the Tigers Badge, with the first one being Bobcat. At pack 301 Den1, we plan to design some activities each month to complete these adventures before end of year.

There’re 6 requirements for Bobcat, some suggested activities are listed here.

Our planned activities are:

Activity 1a: Name Circle. (10 mins to remember each other’s names)

  1. Sit in a circle.
  2. The first child says their name with a motion — for example, “I’m Liam” (jumps up),
  3. The group repeats: “Hi Liam!” and copies the jump.
  4. The next child says, “I’m Sofia” (spins), and the group repeats all the ones before: “This is Liam (jump), this is Sofia (spin)!”
  5. Keep adding each new name and action until everyone’s turn is done.

Activity 1b: Find Someone Who… (10 mins to get to know each other more)

Give prompts like:

  • “Find someone who likes pizza.”
  • “Find someone who has a pet.”
  • “Find someone who can whistle.”
  • “Find someone who can touch their nose with their tongue.”
  • “Find someone who can roll their tongue.”
  • “Find someone who’s favourate color is blue.”

Kids move around and talk to find friends who match each one.

Activity 2: Scout Sign, Scout Salute & Scout Handshake. (10 mins)

Here’s a great video to introduce the scout sign, salute and handshake, and their meanings. During our activities, we’ll have an adult to demonstrate each of these, and then play Simon Says to reinforce these learnings.

Activity 3: Read Scout Oath. (10 mins)

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

  1. Print out the scout Oath and have an adult read out each sentence, scouts follow
  2. Ask scout examples of “do my best”, “do my duty to my country”, “help others”, “how to keep myself physically strong”.

Activity 4: Learn the Scout Law. (10mins)

  1. Trustworthy – A Scout tells the truth and keeps promises.
  2. Loyal – A Scout is faithful to family, friends, Scout leaders, school, and nation.
  3. Helpful – A Scout cares about others and willingly helps people.
  4. Friendly – A Scout is a friend to all and a brother/sister to other Scouts.
  5. Courteous – A Scout is polite and respects others.
  6. Kind – A Scout treats all living things with care and compassion.
  7. Obedient – A Scout follows the rules and respects authority.
  8. Cheerful – A Scout looks for the bright side of life and stays positive.
  9. Thrifty – A Scout works carefully with time, money, and resources.
  10. Brave – A Scout faces danger or difficulty with courage.
  11. Clean – A Scout keeps body, mind, and surroundings clean.
  12. Reverent – A Scout is faithful and respects the beliefs of others.

Have a jar to include 12 of scout laws and ask scout to pick one, and give an example.
